I may be just stuck in old school because I've been playing about 25 years, but I like these precisely made traditional steel strings for acoustic steel sounds better than any others I've tried. EJ16's get in tune and stay in tune quickly within minutes of being newly strung. The tone remains crisp for several days after being strung and then transitions to a less crisp, but still distinct warm sound. I'm festidious about tuning so I also love EJ16's because they usually only need a touch up even using a Peterson tuner. The gauge sizes on this set are also big enough to really activate the soundboard of a nice (or any) acoustic, but they're still light enough to be pleasant to play and can be bent for vibrato. Warm, stable, consistent and easy on the hands. These strings play like an old sock. I've tried many string types in the past couple of years but keep coming back. They have an average life span but I prefer fresh strings anyway. Buy them in bulk for the greatest savings. The high E string came loose off the ball and fell off while tuning up. Long story short, contacted the company, and they responded right away and sent out a replacement set at no cost. I thought customer service was long gone but these guys are good. I have no problems recommending this company. As for the strings, I've used D'Addario's for a long time and decided to try a lighter set this time. They are good but I kind of miss my older thicker strings. My old set sounded richer but were way harder on the hands and playing riffs. Think I just need to get use to it for awhile. |
